Foreword to the American Edition

I wrote «The Ultimate Sniper» to explain concepts such as natural point of aim, to provide essential data on ballistics, optics, shooting techniques, discuss ammunition, human vision peculiarities, parallax, effective methods for sectoring fire, and to delve into the sniper's roles in every type of military operation—not just in standalone two-person operations, as often conceived, but as an integral sniper role in both conventional and special operations. Before «The Ultimate Sniper» sniper skills were not neatly compartmentalized into the clearly defined three areas—accurate shooting, tactics, and fieldcraft—and were not explored in the necessary depth. Much of what I wrote existed as fragmented information scattered across various sources, but nowhere was it compiled with a focus solely on sniping.

And of course, «The Ultimate Sniper» contains original thoughts and methodologies, ranging from ballistic tables (now often copied) to the sequence of target engagement by a sniper, the concept of «ballistic advantage» (later termed counter-sniper «advantage»), and even the precise definition of «accuracy»
